Keeping ducks away from chewers

We get this question more than any other: is it safe around pets? The honest answer is that the figurine is not toxic, but it is also not a chew toy, and a chewed piece becomes a hazard fast.

Why chewing is the problem, not the material

PLA is plant-based and does not leach anything harmful. The risk is mechanical: a dog that chews a figurine breaks off small, hard, sharp-edged fragments. Those are exactly the shape of thing that causes an intestinal obstruction.

Placement that works

  • Above the height a pet can reach from the floor, or from the back of a sofa.
  • Away from the edge of a desk, where a tail can be swatted off by a cat.
  • Not on a coffee table, which is a chew toy delivery system for a large dog.
A figurine on a high shelf is a decoration. A figurine on the floor is a vet bill.

If a piece does get chewed, throw it away rather than sanding it down. You cannot tell by feel whether a fragment is still loose, and the piece is not worth the risk.
