The packing materials we actually use

Packaging is a decision we make per order rather than per product, because the right answer depends on how many pieces are in the parcel and how thin the thinnest part is.

The three formats

  • Padded mailer: one to three compact pieces with no thin protrusions. Lightest and cheapest.
  • Small rigid box: anything with a thin part, or a marble piece where a corner chip would show.
  • Larger box with dividers: multi-piece orders, so pieces cannot touch each other in transit.

On the material itself

We use paper-based padding rather than bubble wrap wherever it will do the job, and a paper mailer rather than a plastic one. It is not a perfect solution — the tape is still plastic — but it means most of what arrives at your door can go in the recycling bin rather than the trash.

Pack for the trip, not for the photo of the unboxing.

If you are ordering a gift and want it sent directly to the recipient, say so in the order notes. We will leave the price off the packing slip and hand-write your message.
